OK, it's done. 64mph Rustler. 23/84 gearing.
Well, I think I may stop here.
I changed the pinion out for a 23T(I couldnt get the darn grub screw out of my 21T).
Took it out to a road where I had about 900-1000' of stretch.
Boy, its weird trying to start the truck off that far away. Seems the signal gets a little corrupted, and it likes to accelerate way faster than what you have your throttle finger doing on the trigger.
Stability was actually not bad. I let it get up to about 30mph Id say, and then rolled ont he throttle steady. After it was close to top speed, I just let it coast, and fortunately, it just spin out, instead of flipping like it usually does.
My calculator says with the 23/84 gearing, speed should be about 72mph, but only if the motor can reach the desired RPM. I may have been climbing slowly, but was getting pretty far out.
I am very easy on the take off with the whole rig being stock. I do however, have an aluminum idler coming in the mail, along with 4 HPI Geolandar tires, with Clawz white wheels.
IMO, on 12 cells, with good conditions, this setup could definately hit 70mph. The packs I used were Trinity High Voltage 2 packs(unmatched), running together in series.

How can you estimate speed based on the gearing?

whats with the stock tires? wouldn't they give you less traction than if you bought a better pair (like road hawgs or something?)?

Those speed calculators are bogus. You don't know how much the tires balloon at speed and what the motor speed is under load.

Aparantly do not know how to use them. They are pretty much dead on, exept for ballooning factors. I have been using them, along with my GPS unit, for a few years now, and 9 times out of ten, the calculator shows speeds within 3-5mph of eachother(GPS). Not bad, considering we are talking of speeds in excess of 55+mph.
You cannot do it with brushed motors too well though, because brushed motors loose alot of RPM under load. So it's hard to determine about what RPM your motor will reach, but you can also use the calculator to find out what RPM your motor reached, and then figure gearing and speed estimates.
Ask the veteran speed testers like myself, and they will tell you the same.

I was of the same opinion, and I definitely do not know how to use that calculator. However, Mtrsprt has verified his methods more than once.

Wow, Swami, you had to update your 60 mph page again!
With all the people hitting 60 these days, the club should be upped to 65 or even 70 mph.
Nice work, mtrsprt.

Yes, those stock tires are now retired. Check out the new ones. They perform flawlessly, and make the truck handle better, and attain stability at any speed.

What does your setup consist of?
To reach 50+mph in a Rustler with the 5300, you will most likely need 8 cells.

mtrsprt,
10 old bad 2400s
24/81 gearing
road rages in rear
stock ribs in front
with good batts that is a 60 plus setup, to much acceleration.
i also thought this might help,
stiffen the rear with preloads,so the backend wont be scraping the ground giving better aeros.
you will wheelie easier but still,
i will be in the race next summer for sure,no money now, and i will be doing 12 cells.
my goal is to get 60mph before i get into high school.
start 7th grade in 2 days , noo
i like those tires too mtrsprt, sorry for long post everyone.

_rollin_,
There's is something wrong with your setup. With 10 cells(12V) going to the 5300, it should spin close to 63,000rpm. Given your tire diameter(3.6") and the final drive ratio of 9.18:1, your speed(if your motor can pull the rpm)should be about 73mph.
IMO< there's no way your 53000 can pull 24/81 gearing. Maybe you should start with a 17T, and see what happens. Brushless motors like to spin the highest rpm they can. Sometimes using lower gearing can find the sweet spot in your motor setup, and sometimes net faster speeds.
To give you an example. My 4200 motor is reaching about 60,000 rpm for me to acheive 57-59mph. I am running 17/84 gearing, with 4.25" diameter tires. According to the RC speed calculator I use for reference, my speed should be about 57mph with my current setup. With my GPS taped onto the model, I showed 59.7mph max speed, which was probably due to some tire ballooning.
See what you can do about starting your gearing down low again. Your setup should easily hit 60mph with your eyes closed.

As long as you charge and discharge both packs equally, they will act as one 12 cell pack. I do this loyally for every set of packs I run.
I also run same cell types in my packs, and most the time peak voltage, and discharged voltage is very very close to each other.

Ok this is my last try LOL. You do know that stick packs melt with even the SS5800. So your setup would be even worse on the packs.

I have heard the same. It's not worth spending the extra $ for 300 more mah of capacity. Now...If they were lats say...4000mah, then it might be worth it.
Most of my GP3300 packs take in about 3300-3600mah of charge anyway.
