Cheap Tire Mod
Greatings fellow bashers... I got this lil tip from someone on here and I got a wild hair one day so I tryed it... It works great, my brother and I both have Tmaxx 2.5. I get way more traction than him.
the tip I read said to cut out everyother lug on the stock tires and carefully grind the tire smooth with a dremel tool... don't have pics yet but it works great and looks mean as @&#%! please give me your input good or bad

True this mod works. You can also shave them all off and make slicks. BUT!!!! By doing this you can weaken the tire carcass. The tire can and will blow apart. Its really pretty funny when it happens and the tire foam hangs out.

I don't think a 4-tec would work for backyard bashing. You can **** out a truck too!: lower it, get 40 series rims (dubs) and tires, dual tip rear exhaust, Cadalac Escalade body. **** yeah
and no monster trucks are not redneck they just can't drive on the street lol.

here are mine. it worked great. now these tires are slicks, i went back and took off every thread. the tires were never glued and to this day they remain unglued. i still run them all the time ive had the slicks for almost a year and they have never blown apart. some times a side will come off but thats it.

Looks pretty sweet. Has anyone done this mod and then mounted the tires backwards to use them like paddles?
The reason I ask is because I just did two of my tires this morning. I took off every other lug and I am going to try them in the sand pit near my house if it ever stops raining.
Anyhow, has anyone tried them backwards? If so, how'd they work, did you try them in sand?
Thanks,
Bowtied

I did a different the cut tire theme a little different with my old set of stock tires. Instead of cutting every other lug completely out only cut half of every other one rotating from the inside to outside of the tire.
Like this:
Closer pic before the fronts were done:
So far they have been wearing very good (several gallons so far) even with quite a bit of pavement running. They will hook-up in just about any condition.....mud - snow - sand whatever and didn't cost anything (unlike all the aftermarket tires) since all T's - E's and Sportmaxx's come with these tires everyone has them.

A little off topic, but I like you wheelie bar. I've been thinking up different things to try for a wheelie bar, but never would have come up with that.

Hey Madd_Maxx129, that is an awesome tire cutting job!
Well, I got a chance to try my modified tires today and they ripped! I removed every other lug and then mounted them backwards and installed them on the rear of the truck. I was in wet sand and when I gassed it I was leaving ruts too cool. Anyhow, it was just what I was looking for sice I am running in 2WD with an FOC, nice and light!
Last thing, Madd_Maxx129, does your wheelie bar setup work pretty good?
Later,
Bowtied

How did you get your tires so shiny NPede 69?
BTW, I really like how you did that Madd_Maxx129!!! Those tires look awsome and that's what I'll do if I decide to cut my tires. Might actually also put some spikes in the tires like Hot Rod T-max did to his...

Npede 69, I could have got it from you, I can't remember the person's name (shrug) Oh well..hehe Bash on
Dune... I used an X-Acto knife andjust cut the lugs off and then used a Dremel with a sandpaper drum to smooth out what was left. Do it outside though it creates LOTS of tire dust!
Madd Maxx, I love the tread design

Tools used
I used a tile nipper, something like this.
Using these won't make a clean, flush cut but will take most of it. I didn't decide to insert the spikes until I starting grinding the cut smooth. Realizing how much work was in front of me, I thought the little bit of tread left behind would give good support for the spike.

i tryed it today on my electric kyosho....(maxx is broke).......from what i've seen it works great.....gave me my first wheelie with it......only problem that i had was there was too much traction.....instead of turning and slideing trough a turn it would just push the front wheels not letting them turn the truck i only tryed it in hard and loose dirt and loose gravel....no mud yet....as soon as i get the maxx running agian it will have the same thing done......ohh i just removed everyother lug on the rears........and i haven't ground it down completely yet but it still looks good for a strickly trashing truck

i used this cleaning wood polish stuff called Orange Glow to get the tires nice and shiny. but it wears off after u run ur truck.
to cutr the tire i used like wire cutters, then went in with my dremel with a sanding drum to get the rest off..
Mad_maxx129- i really like how u did ur tires. i will have to try that.
later

Hotrod Tmaxx - nice bling bling
Run your truck on a baseball diamond, where the maximum benefit of cut tires can be seen. Medium/hard surface with a dusty layer of loose soil. Staggered treads also work really well for pulling on most surfaces.
For rock crawling, Mad_Maxx129 has a more ideal setup...and a really trick wheelie bar I might add.

Tools
A multi-speed Dremel rotary tool with medium or fine sanding drum. I used #438.
Sharp crimping/cutting tool. I used ceramic tile nippers like
this
Do NOT use an X-acto knife.
White-Out (I'll explain why in a minute)
________________________________________________
Instructions
The first thing you want to do is mark the treads you want to remove with White-Out so you don't accidentally remove the wrong tread. I know this sounds stupid, but it's better to be safe than sorry, and ruin a tire.
Use the tile nippers and snip off as much of the tread as you can. There's going to be a little nub left, especially close to the sidewalls, but you'll be sanding that down later.
The most crucial part is sanding. For the best results, I recommend placing the tire in a vise that way you can use both hands to control the Dremel. I can't remember what speed setting I used, but medium/medium low does the job well.
I found that the easiest method (using a vise) is to do one side of the tire at a time. Sand what you can, then open the vise and rotate the tire. When one side is finished, turn the tire around and do the other side. I started at the center of the tread and worked my way towards the sidewall.
You don't need to use a lot of pressure, keep that in mind. Pay extra attention near the firewalls, so you don't remove too much material. If you're having trouble, increase the speed of the Dremel as opposed to applying more pressure.

I started to use the dremel w/sanding drum but noticed the amount of work needed to get it smooth. That's when I decided to put the spikes in. I thought the extra material would add some support to the spikes.
