You didn't state your location so I will assume you are in the U.S.
29 MHz are not legal in the U.S.
Here is a list of frequencies that are:
27 MHz band
50 MHz band
53 MHz band
72 MHz band
75 MHz band
Most times a different MHz will not work in radios/receivers that are made MHz specific.
If there are only a few of you racing at the same time why don't you just get a set of crystals that none of them have?

You can buy crystals that are in between those that are available from Traxxas.

Or, OQ he could invest in an FM radio, preferably the 75MHz variety. That way he could chose one of 30 chanels, that is if 75MHz is legal in the land of Oz.

I agree with wannasmax, go FM and you can choose from 30 channels at the flip of a switch.. Sounds like that would be your best bet instead of messing around with those annoying crystals.

I was not offering more than the user asked for, or I would have mentioned the possibilitiy of a new radio system.
Some of you kids think to spend spend spend is how it's done, but some people are on budgets and can accept little change requirements that are more cost effective.

i doubt there are radio shacks in the land down under but im sure you can find them online .they sell a complete set of 12 different 27 mhz crystals for their xmods 1/28 scale cars that would work in your traxxas radio .if im not mistaken the set was somewhere in the 20.00 range and should work beings most am crystals are not brand specific .is that a cheap enough solution for you !!! xmods crystals

Yes, OQ , you are right, but I suggested the radio option as a last resort if he couldn't figure out what else he could do. Plus, you can't really beat FM, with a choice of 30 channels. Someone suggested a synthesized radio, and that would be MY personal choice.....But, a good FM radio can be had for 75 to 100 USD. The MX3 or Hitec aggressor come to mind. If memory serves me right, OQ, you run an M8, most likely the 75MHz.

The FCC regulates what is allowed for transmission. Here's a link to radio controlled specifically.

I use a hand me down from the neighbor, it's a 27MHz Airtronics 3PS Caliber.
The new synthesized radios are the wave of the future.

My bad, OQ, nothing meant, nothing taken. I love my XS3 with Novak receiver..... So many adjustments, so little time!
